چکیده
BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE Nasopharyngeal necrosis is an unusual sequelae after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). It is mostly managed by conservative treatment, but the efficacy is unsatisfied. This study was to investigate the efficacy of endoscopy-guided debridement on irradiation-related nasopharyngeal necrosis in NPC patients after radiotherapy. METHODS Between Jul. 2006 and Mar. 2007, 20 NPC patients with irradiation-related nasopharyngeal necrosis after radiotherapy were treated with endoscopy-guided debridement and systemic anti-inflammatory treatment in Cancer Center of Sun Yat-sen University. The short-term outcomes were analyzed. RESULTES: Nasopharyngeal necrosis was cured in 5 patients. Clinical symptoms such as foul odor, headache, and hemorrhage were alleviated in 12 patients. Three patients died of nasopharyngeal massive hemorrhage within 1 year although their clinical symptoms were alleviated. CONCLUSION Endoscopy-guided debridement is effective in treating irradiation-related nasopharyngeal necrosis, but the prognosis of the NPC patients with severe nasopharyngeal necrosis and internal carotid artery involvement is relatively poor.

Postradiation nasopharyngeal necrosis in the patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
BACKGROUND Radiation-induced nasopharyngeal necrosis is a consequential late effect in the patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Patients with NPC who have been treated with high-dose radiotherapy are at risk of developing postradiation nasopharyngeal necrosis (PRNN). However, the analysis of PRNN with a significant cohort of patients has not been reported in English-language literature...
متن کاملThe importance of the optimal volume in the treatment of locally recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma; brachytherapy or stereotactic radiotherapy?
Introduction: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is commonly known as a radiosensitive tumor with the initial good response to radiation. Despite the improved outcome in loco regional control by the introduction of combining treatment, modern radiotherapy techniques and enhanced imaging studies, local recurrent after primary treatment with rate ranges from 15-58% in 5 years, stil...

Background: Local recurrence in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma (NPC) presents is a major challenge. Patients experience substantial morbidity as well as poor survival if no further treatment is offered. Residual or recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma is usually managed by chemotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), interstitial, and intracavitary brachytherapy or s...

Introduction: Radiobiological modeling of radiotherapy plans are used for treatment plan comparisons. The current study aimed to compare the three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) plans for nasopharyngeal cancer using radiobiological modeling. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 10 patients with nasopharyngeal carci...
